Shipping & Receiving Forklift Operator (Sit-Down) – Cedar Rapids Area

Shift: Monday – Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM + possible overtime

Pay Rate: $19.00/hour ($760 Weekly Gross) paid weekly

Status: Temp-to-Hire in 3 months

Role Summary

We are seeking a dependable  Shipping & Receiving Forklift Operator responsible for handling inbound and outbound freight, maintaining accurate inventory, and supporting daily warehouse operations. This role is critical to ensuring product flow, accuracy, and on-time shipments in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Shipping & Receiving:

• Load and unload trucks using a sit-down forklift
• Verify incoming and outgoing shipments for accuracy (counts, damages, paperwork)
• Stage materials for shipping and ensure proper labeling

Inventory Control:

• Accurately track product movement and locations
• Assist with cycle counts and inventory audits
• Maintain organized warehouse layout for efficient flow

Order Fulfillment:

• Pick, stage, and prepare orders for shipment
• Ensure correct product and quantities are shipped

Equipment Operation & Safety:

• Safely operate sit-down forklift and attachments
• Perform daily equipment checks and report issues
• Follow all safety protocols and OSHA guidelines

General Warehouse Support:

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas
• Assist team as needed to meet daily shipping deadlines

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience:

• 3 years of Sit-Down forklift experience (shipping/receiving preferred)
• Experience loading/unloading trucks and handling freight is a strong plus
• Stable work history is a must

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed
• Frequent standing, bending, and forklift entry/exit

Screening Requirements:

• Must pass a drug screen and physical

Background:

• National background check required
• Misdemeanors may be considered on a case-by-case basis
• No recent violent or theft-related felony convictions

Education:

• High school diploma or GED

Skills:

• Basic math and computer skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Work Environment

• Warehouse setting with varying temperatures (approx. 40°F – 90°F)
• May include dust, noise, and exposure to common warehouse conditions

Additional Tasks:

* Verify and maintain records on incoming and outgoing shipments involving inventory. Duties include verifying and recording incoming merchandise or material and arranging for the transportation of products. May prepare items for shipment.

* Examine shipment contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy.

* Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock.

* Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials.

* Pack, seal, label, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using hand tools, power tools, or postage meter.

* Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes.

* Confer or correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications.

* Deliver or route materials to departments using hand truck, conveyor, or sorting bins.

* Contact carrier representatives to make arrangements or to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.

* Determine shipping methods, routes, or rates for materials to be shipped.

* Compute amounts, such as space available, shipping, storage, or demurrage charges, using computer or price list.

* Compare shipping routes or methods to determine which have the least environmental impact.
