Summary:

Supports the design, development, and maintenance of automated Geographic Information System (GIS) workflows, geoprocessing tools, and web applications to enhance cartographic production, spatial analysis, and data management. to ensure data integrity, system performance, and compliance with established standards.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:Equivalent combination of 2.5 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), geography, information technology, data management, or a closely related field.

License/Certification:None.

Other Requirements: Must pass a fingerprint based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.

Trainee Option:Candidates with an equivalent combination of 1.5+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in trainee status for this position.

When applicable, the work of an employee in trainee status in this position shall be overseen by a fully qualified individual. Responsibilities:

Assist in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining automation scripts using Python, ArcPy, Arcade, and the ArcGIS API for Python within the ESRI ArcGIS Pro environment. Support the creation of reusable geoprocessing tools and workflow automation models to streamline cartographic production and data management tasks. Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize scripts to improve performance and reliability across GIS projects.

Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal GIS-based web applications and Python-driven websites that support mapping operations and data dissemination. Assist in integrating GIS services (e.g., feature services, map services) into web applications using ESRI REST services and related APIs. Perform routine updates, testing, and documentation of web applications to ensure continued functionality and data accuracy.

Work with enterprise geodatabases (e.g., ArcGIS Server and SDE environments) to maintain data accuracy, integrity, and version control. Develop and execute validation scripts to identify errors, inconsistencies, and topology issues within GIS datasets. Assist in designing structured workflows for efficient data ingestion, transformation, and synchronization.

Develop custom geoprocessing tools and scripts to perform spatial analyses involving proximity, containment, adjacency, trend analysis, and other complex spatial relationships. Support analysts and cartographers by translating analytical requirements into automated workflows. Document methodologies and ensure analytical outputs meet established state and federal standards.

Assist in automating repetitive cartographic production tasks within ArcGIS Pro, including map series generation, layout standardization, and data-driven page creation. Develop templates and scripting tools that enhance consistency, efficiency, and adherence to Division cartographic standards. Perform quality assurance checks on automated outputs to verify accuracy and compliance.

Collaborate with GIS staff and technical teams to design, test, and improve database-driven GIS applications and workflows. Create clear technical documentation for scripts, applications, and automated processes to support maintainability and knowledge transfer. Participate in code reviews and adopt best practices in version control, testing, and secure coding standards.
