About the role, Your Impact:

Baxter & Woodman’s Spatial Technology Group has a rewarding opportunity for a GIS Field Services Intern. The position will be based out of our Mokena or Naperville, IL office and will include opportunities to work in the field as well as at client locations. This on-the-job experience will support the firm’s Spatial Technology department. Successful candidates will possess a strong work ethic, technical problem-solving skills, and the ability to work within a wide variety of project types and environmental conditions. What your day-to-day will look like, and what you will learn on the job:

  • Report to the GIS Field Services Manager for work responsibilities, scheduling, and tasks.
  • Perform office and field-based mapping tasks.
  • Assist with GPS equipment configuration and support.
  • Provide field-based services including but not limited to GPS data collection of construction as-builts, utilities, pavement, signage, ADA, etc.
  • Provide onsite work for municipal clients and field-based projects as needed.
  • Conduct inventory, track, and maintain field equipment.

Education Requirement:

  • Ongoing pursuit of a 2-year or 4-year degree in GIS, or Construction related fields.

Must-haves, what you will bring:

  • Ability to work in the office and the field performing setup, support, and assistance with GPS services, data collection, inspections, and condition assessments in a wide variety of project types and environments.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Chicagoland area (own transportation).
  • Proficient with Microsoft software including but not limited to Excel, and Word.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AutoCAD experience

Compensation The pay for this role is $21.00 an hour. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
